Tom Holert is an art historian and writer. He currently teaches at the Akademie der bildenden Künste, Vienna. From 1992–1996 Holert was editor of the journal Texte zur Kunst and from 1996 to 1999 editor of the magazine Spex, both based in Cologne. In 2000 he founded, with Mark Terkessidis, the Institute for Studies in Visual Culture, Cologne. Holert has written extensively on artists such as Jeroen de Rijke/Willem de Rooij, Nicole Wermers, Bettina Pousttchi, Katja Davar, Mathias Poledna, Mark Lewis, Peter Zimmermann, Jeanne Faust, Sanja Iveković, and Omer Fast. He regularly publishes essays and studies in publications such as Artforum, Bidoun, Camera Austria, Jungle World, Literaturen, taz, Texte zur Kunst, and Süddeutsche Zeitung.
