Thomas Boutoux and Okwui Enwezor engage in a dialogue about the increased influence of the notion of globalization in the early nineties in exhibition making and analyze the power structures that were reflected and reinforced by an expanding international art system. Tracing a number of key exhibitions in the last decade, Boutoux and Enwezor consider the origins of a number of influential discussion points in the art world, from the encounter with postcolonial studies and discourses of representation within artistic practice to a rethinking of modernity and its local variants.
