A highly readable book by Garton Ash, a journalist who has written a number of important books on the revolutions of 1989 and their aftermath, and has recently called for a ‘synthetic history of 1989’ to be written. These short sketches and articles, many written from a personal perspective, were filed during the 1990s and provide a concise overview of key geopolitical events in Europe during that decade (including German reunification, the Bosnian War, Kosovo invasion, etc.)
