Documentation of Culture in Action. New Public Art in Chicago, Sculpture Chicago, 1992–1993, innovative public art program curated by Mary Jane Jacob in which a series of public projects by contemporary artists redefined the relationship between public art and its audiences in the US. Each artist immersed him or herself over a period of time into an urban community in the city and the projects which emerged from this encounter had diverse formats (communal garden, dinner party, bar, interactive sculpture, etc.) and dealt with highly charged, urgent issues in these communities such as AIDS, homelessness, racism, illiteracy, etc.
