Part of the Global Art and the Museum research project, initiated by Peter Weibel at ZKM, which attempts to chart the so-called ‘global’ turn in the contemporary art world, ushered in by a shift from’ bi-polar political conflict to new ideas of cosmopolitanism or multiculturalism after 1989.’ This volume focuses on the persistent gap between the “West” and artistic production from other parts of the world and looks at how global art production has affected museums, the development of biennials, art fairs, etc.
