Osborne’s quite influential reexamination of conceptual art is informed by his engagements with contemporary philosophy and theory, and focuses on critical perspectives in conceptual art. The book is structured by six categories, which the author suggests are six different ways that artists contested traditional notions of art. See in particular the sections on Politics and Ideology, Institutional Critique, and Afterwards, 1980–2000, which considers ‘post-conceptual’ developments over part of the period that FORMER WEST is looking into.
