The third in Hardt and Negri’s theoretical trilogy in which they attempt to diagnose the political condition of today, in particular the impact of globalization on the potential for political action and forms of collectivity. Following up on Empire and Multitudes, Commonwealth (released October 2009) expands Hardt and Negri’s analysis of multinational formations and institutions as well as modes of governance that would allow for the development of freedom stemming from a shared respect for the ideals of the commonwealth.
