Ausgeträumt… was a group exhibition at the Secession, Vienna, curated by FW co-curator Kathrin Rhomberg, and was on view from 29.11.2001–03.02.2002. The title of the show, which can’t be adequately translated into English but means something like ‘all dreamed out’ or ‘disenchanted,’ claimed, in the curator’s words, ‘that we perceive our current social, political, and artistic reality through the film of a prevailing mood of disillusionment, at least in Europe.’ The exhibition touched upon the sense, at the end of a period of relative hope in the post-bloc Europe of the 1990s, that there was no horizon of progress or a better world to strive towards—no construct of the future—a gloomy perspective only solidified by the 9/11 attacks that took place shortly before the exhibition opened. Minh-ha, Július Koller, Pawel Althamer, Renée Green, Florian Hecker, Mladen Stilinović, Manfred Grübl, Josef Dabernig, etc.
