Catalog accompanying the exhibition Aspekte /Positionen: 50 Jahre Kunst aus Mitteleuropa 1949–1999 [Aspects/Positions: 50 Years of Art in Central Europe 1949–1999], Museum moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig Wien, Vienna, curated by Lóránd Hegyi (18.12.1999–27.02.2000; subsequently travelled to venues in Budapest, Barcelona, Southhampton (US), and Prague). This exhibition was significant in that represents one of the first attempts to ‘outline the development of modern and contemporary Central European art between 1949 and 1999.’ Going beyond the Cold War division of East and West, which also influenced artistic production and reception, the exhibited artists are presented in their similarity as much as difference, highlighting the overarching aesthetic and political concerns that can be seen in the works of artists from both sides of the Iron Curtain. Exhibited artists included: Marina Abramovic, Stano Filko, Gorgona Group, Tomislav Gotovac, Christine and Irene Hohenbüchler, IRWIN, Peter Kogler, Július Koller, Hermann Nitsch, Roman Ondák, Marko Peljhan, Apolonija Šušteršic, Milica Tomić, Franz West, Heimo Zobernig, etc
