Arteast 2000+ International Collection: The Art of Eastern Europe in Dialogue with the West was an exhibition that took place at the Moderna galerija, Ljubljana, 24.06.–30.08.2000, curated by Zdenka Badovinac with consultation from Viktor Misiano, Piotr Piotrowski (FORMER WEST research advisor), Harald Szeemann, and Igor Zabel. Exhibited works were part of the new international collection of modern and contemporary art at the Moderna galerija, compiled with the aim of establishing a dialogue between the East and the West when it comes to artistic production and the global view of art history: ‘This is precisely the aim of the Arteast 2000+ collection: to help the idea of Eastern Europe as a blind spot of history to finally disappear from the map of Europe.’ This exhibition is significant to the discourse of the post-89 world in the sense that the presence of the ‘West’ is negatively defined—that is to say, defined in a certain sense by its absence. Exhibited artists included: Joseph Beuys, Róza El-Hassan, Stano Filko, Dmitry Gutov, Jenny Holzer, Anish Kapoor, Oleg Kulik, Via Lewandowsky, Boris Mikhailov, Adrian Paci, Nedko Solakov, Slaven Tolj, Lawrence Weiner, etc.
