Tania Bruguera (born 1968) is an artist whose time-based practice is defined by the artist as arte de conducta [behavior art] and arte útil [useful art]. Her work, directly involving the audience, concerns the power dynamics of politics. Formerly she was founder and director of Cátedra Arte de Conducta, Havana, the first performance studies program in Latin America, from 2003–2009. Her work has been exhibited widely; recent exhibitions include: Catch Phrases and the Powers of Language, Kunsthaus Baselland, Basel, 2012; The Tanks: Art in Action, Tate Modern, London, 2012; and Forget Fear, 7th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, Berlin, 2012.
